eLearning Design & Build
Eight minutes, not forty-five
A policy update on financial crime, tax evasion and fraud prevention meant everyone needed to know what had changed, and quickly.
Most of the organisation's compliance training was bought off the shelf. It ran for 30 to 45 minutes, didn't look or sound like the business, and used generic examples that had nothing to do with people's day-to-day work.
The challenge
I worked with the policy owners to boil the update down to eight practical pointers: what had changed and what it meant in practice. I created a content storyboard to help SMEs focus on the content itself rather than become too distracted by visuals beyond mock-ups. Once signed off, I built a bespoke 8-minute micro-learning module in Storyline, in the organisation's own brand and tone of voice.
Three characters carried the learning through scenarios informed by real stories. Questions drew out people's first instincts and led them by curiosity. The feedback either built on their thinking or gently corrected it, followed by another chance to apply it. That way people didn't just read the policy, they practised using it.
The approach
The solution
A focused, eight-minute module that sounded like the organisation and was built around the situations people actually face. It replaced 45 minutes of generic content, and it set the pattern for the rest of the compliance suite. The whole project was turned around within the agreed timeframe.

Their stories, their schedule
Compliance training had been bought in piece by piece by different teams. Modules ran to 45 minutes, full of jargon and generic examples, in a design that didn't feel like the organisation. For busy teams, and especially maintenance staff who rarely sat at a computer, it was hard to find the time and hard to see the point.
The challenge
I worked through the training as a learner first, then wrote a diagnostic report recommending a bespoke rebuild. I went out to market and recommended a provider whose accredited content is kept up to date, so the organisation's subject experts weren't rewriting modules every time the rules changed, but which could still be personalised heavily: look, feel, tone and examples.
From there, working with those subject experts, we swapped generic examples for real stories from inside the business and the organisation's own policies, so every scenario reflected people's actual work. Each module was capped at 15 minutes. For maintenance teams, I designed a rollout that booked them onto laptops on day one, with an annual refresher.
The approach
A fresh suite of 15 eLearning modules that felt personal, equipped people with what they needed to know for the lived reality around them and fitted around the working day. Modules dropped from 45 minutes to 15, engagement and completions increased, and training became far easier to reach and track.
In user testing with a representative group from across the business, 100% of responses agreed the modules felt more like their organisation and improved their experience.

LMS Support
A platform they could trust
The challenge
The existing learning platform wasn't fit for purpose. Completion data was misfiring, courses weren't recording properly, and trust in the supplier had broken down. The L&D team couldn't rely on their own reports. Thousands of pounds were being spent on a content library which wasn’t fully utilised.
I turned the organisation's needs into a clear set of requirements, took them to market and negotiated a three-year deal at a significant discount. The new platform supports both SCORM and xAPI, so the organisation can track learning accurately now and for years to come. I wrote the business case, managed a careful offboarding so there was never a gap without a working system, then planned the new platform in stages. The mock-ups matched the brand, with clearer compliance tracking and dashboards that show managers how their teams are doing.
The approach
The solution
Tracking errors, where completed courses failed to record as complete, fell from dozens of cases to within the accepted industry range of 1–3%. Managers can now see their team's progress at a glance, and the business has a platform it can trust.
